I really liked this place. Happened to stay with them on a cold February night and was offered a fresh cup of coffee on arrival. The lobby is intimate (as a smaller town hotel’s should be) with a front desk manned by seasoned staff who know the property and the area (the woman who checked me in explained how “Olean” derived from the word “oil,” the region’s original industry). The hotel sits at an attractive perpendicular to the highway and boasts mountain views from behind. It’s just a mile in opposite directions to Olean and Allegany, two attractive towns with good bars and restaurants and indeed a dry-cleaner (where I had my clothes before heading back to Europe) and a barber (as I wanted to spruce up after 3 weeks on the road) – the hotel staff helped me choose both of these. The pool was the perfect size and after a simple but very tasty breakfast I had a nice swim before hitting the road. More generally Best Western is onto something with its new “Plus” brand, indicated by red logo rather than blue. Whereas traditional Best Westerns vary greatly by footprint and amenities, the “Plus” uplift is something more 21st century standard but with the same welcoming atmosphere. Home office clearly applies pressure to franchisees, as the man who checked me out explained that the Olean property will upgrade TVs to 60-inchers by yearend, although the TVs already there are excellent. It’s part of this nearly 80-year old American chain’s bid for the new generations of traveler, where they’re doing a bang-up job.

5 starts is an insult. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with the smell of clean right away. The entire staff all carried a welcoming smile, very professional, took care of everthing. BREAKFAST - FANTASTIC! The most kind little lady prepared the whole thing. The eggs were not the typical disgusting hotel eggs. These were seasoned, fluffy, and delicious. Many types of fruit, fresh breads and danishes, many choices to suit many dietary needs. The kitchenette is connected to the lobby and stayed open 24 hours! The coffee was always fresh. ROOMS - clean, fresh bedding. Lots of pillows. The refridgerator was a nice size to hold leftovers. There are picnic tables and grills in a nice shaded grassy area toward the back of parking lot. Thanks to all for making our stay one of the best in a while.

The staff was the most wonderful people we have met in any of or stays, Mary welcomed us when we arrived and made the extra effort to ensure we were comfortable. Amber and Reba always asked how we were doing and if there was anything they could get or do for us. Kim cleaned our room and took the time to make it special with the linen being folded and fanned normally seen in 5STAR resorts. Paula ensured we were taken care of on the night shift even though the pool was being serviced. Great coffee with their new machine and breakfast did the job. we will definitely be staying here again

We've stayed at a number of these mid-level hotels, and this was one of our best experiences ever. The bed was wonderfully comfortable (usually not the case), the room was larger than usual and quite pleasant to spend some time in, even the side chair was great (which is hardly ever the case, most are awful). The selections available at breakfast as well as the quality of the items were definitely above average, kudos for that.

The woman at the front desk (I think her name was Toni?) was very kind and professional. I got locked in my room and got locked out of my room. She was so quick to come and grease my door so it didn't get stuck (and it worked). The breakfast buffet was delicious. Food was hot and everything was clean.
